- Around 1870, Cowboys realized that their normal boots did not suit well to riding on the trails chasing cattle
- The boot was redesigned with a
- Pointed Toe to get into stirrup easily
- Taller shaft to protect legs against underbrush
- Bigger, thicker Heel so it would not come out of stirrup
- Loose top, so could easily pull leg out if needed to get off horse quickly
- The spur has been around since the Celtic culture
- Spurs are intended for use only when a horse fails to respond to leg pressure
