    • An adaptation of English style engraving
    • Creates a uniquely western element
    • Native to Bohlin merchandise
    • Around 1870, Cowboys realized that their normal boots did not suit well to riding on the trails chasing cattle
    • The boot was redesigned with a
      • Pointed Toe to get into stirrup easily
      • Taller shaft to protect legs against underbrush
      • Bigger, thicker Heel so it would not come out of stirrup
      • Loose top, so could easily pull leg out if needed to get off horse quickly
    • The spur has been around since the Celtic culture
      • Spurs are intended for use only when a horse fails to respond to leg pressure
      • Spur has three parts
        • Heel band with buttons
        • Shank (across the ankle)
        • Rowel (wheel)
