The Look
The No. 5 is one of Bohlin’s foundational buckle forms, in continuous use since the early twentieth century. Its proportions established the standard for the 1" ranger set, a format that would go on to define a distinct category of Western dress.
Refined through decades of craftsmanship, the NY158 balances scale and detail across each component, creating a cohesive set that sits naturally on the belt. The form reflects Bohlin’s long-standing tradition of Western design, where function and ornament are brought together through hand fabrication.
This example features Floral scrollwork wit a shield and flowers, set against a hand-engraved sterling silver field, maintaining the integrity of the original form while introducing a distinct Bohlin motif.
This style was worn by William Boyd, known for his portrayal of Hopalong Cassidy, further establishing the No. 5 as a defining element of Western dress.

Care
Bohlin buckles are made to be worn, not just displayed. Crafted from solid precious metals with hand-finished details, each piece is intended to develop a natural patina over time — a signature of heirloom-quality silver and gold.
To clean, gently wipe with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and, if needed, use mild diluted soap and warm water to remove surface dirt. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before storing.
Avoid chemical polishes or ultrasonic cleaners, as they can damage intentional finishes, inlays, and natural oxidation. Patina is part of the story — let it evolve with you.
